The seed is in the ground, the weather has more or less cooperated in many parts of western Canada, Montana and the US corn belt, and it appears the cost of feeding animals is on the way down. It was a busy quarter at WAGS, holding workshops across the various territories we operate in; focused on egg shell quality for laying hens, research updated on swine nutrition and management, and ventilation for hog barns...
As farmers head into the fields to sow their seeds this month, seeds of change have already been planted across North America and the globe. The new US administration has taken an aggressive approach to alter international trade. In turn, Canadians have elected a new prime minister from a not so new political party. Here’s to hoping the leaders on both sides of the border can form a strong working relationship...

Thanks for tuning into the Q3 ’24 version of our newsletter. Lots of global events on the go impacting commodity markets with inflation, interest rate cuts, conflicts in the middle east, global container rates climbing again… and of course a US presidential election just heating up. Q2 brought a wild ride in the grain market with a surge in the wheat and protein markets before things calmed back down again as we got into July...
Happy Spring! Some early spring snowstorms helped moisture levels a bit, seeding has begun, and hog prices have climbed. Certainly a few positives since the last newsletter was released in January! It was a busy first quarter of 2024. There were some great trade shows in Swift Current, Lethbridge, Red Deer and Great Falls that the team attended. Nice getting to see a lot of producers with whom we work with at these shows and equally great to see the number of awards they won highlighted later in the newsletter...
